Salon Life After Covid-19

Autumn Markley Hair Salon

Autumn Markley Hair Salon

After our hiatus and time in quarantine, coming back to the reopening of businesses and going back to work can be an interesting and sometimes challenging time. Places aren’t the same as they used to be, and going forward we are all just trying to adjust to this new “normal”. We at Autumn Markley Salon Studio have taken all CDC recommended precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and guests alike. That being said, not everyone has had the time to come back to the salon, or felt comfortable going out to get their hair done yet. Even if you were chomping at the bit to get back into the salon as soon as we opened, finding the time or making the time for yourself can take a little more effort than it used to, believe me we completely understand!

I think that we all had those moments where we thought that making little “adjustments” to our hair sounded like a brilliant idea. Without being able to go to our normal hair appointments at the salon, maybe that box of color at the store was just calling your name. Perhaps you decided to go down the Youtube rabbit hole one night with a glass of wine and decided that bangs were a fabulous idea to try out. Some of those hair tutorial videos sure make adding a few brighter pieces around your face look oh so easy to do by yourself, am I right? But once that burst of DIY confidence wears off, you might have ended up with something that isn’t quite what you were going for. Now coming back into the salon we need to be able to swoop in to the rescue and bring your locks back to the their former glory! But sometimes it can take time to correct the color that you have ended up with. We will always make sure to clearly communicate with you what we think is achievable at your appointment. So having some flexibility is key.

On the other hand, not playing kitchen beautician during quarantine can also come with its own set of issues. Depending on what your natural hair color is, and what your grown out colored or highlighted hair is, there may be quite a difference between the two. If you are someone who has extremely blonde colored hair, with a rather dark natural color, there will be quite a bit of regrowth. The longer the regrowth of your natural hair, the more difficult it be to get the same amount of lift. This also makes it more difficult to blend the fresh color with the older color without doing a considerable amount more foils, which does require more product and time than your normal appointment may have been previously.

The moral of the story is that when it has been a long time since you have your hair colored, or if you may have tried something yourself at home in the interim, your first time back in the salon may not be exactly what you are used to getting done. This is why it is so important to really talk about your what your expectations are, and what needs to happen in order to get you there.
